CP locomotive "El Gobernador"
- 1846 – The first railway line in Hungary opens between Pest and Vác.
- 1894 – Central Pacific Railroad scraps El Gobernador (pictured), at the time the largest locomotive in the world.[1]
- 1923 – United States President Warren G. Harding drives the golden spike on the Alaska Railroad.
- 2004 – Dennis H. Miller is promoted to president of the Iowa Interstate Railroad.
